Vaporum Walkthrough
Level 10: The Arx Vaporum (Silver Key)
Ammunition
Upon your return from The Office, go to the northeast. Some ammunition and a note lies on the floor here. There’s also a switch on the wall, but it won’t be active for some time.
Dead Battery
Take the drained Golem Battery from this box. With it in your posession, when you try to leave the room, two waller thaumaturges will materialize and wall you in the room until they die. We need to recharge the battery and get back here later, so for now return to the central room and go southwest.
Locked Door
The Silver Key will open this door.
Battery Slot
Place the dead battery in the box here. We’ll charge it up later. Ignore the rest of this room for now and go north (you can arrange the mirror stands as indicated, turn the laser on, and even open up a secret wall if you wish, but until we get more mirrors it will all amount to nothing).
Power Generator
When you flip the two switches here, a wall to the far south will open, exposing a firewave golem.
Lever
Pull this lever to open a wall to the east.
Energy Cell
In this chest is an Energy Cell, some ammunition, and a phonodiary. Now we need to tackle the teleporter in the central room.
Teleporter
The state of the six switches flanking this teleporter determines where you will be transported. All the required codes are in Lisa Teller’s notes, two of which we already have. For each combination, 0 is red and green is 1. Attempts to use the teleporter with an incorrect combination will result in some self-damage and teleportation two tiles back. Using this walkthrough, you can enter the combination in any order, but we will follow the game’s intended route to keep it simple. Set up the first combination: 110010, and enter the teleporter.
Secret #26
The game calls this a super secret. In this chest are: Assassin Surcoat, Thaumaturge Armor, Guardian Chestplate, Amplifier Helm, a Circuit Upgrade, and a note. The teleporter in the room will return you back near 17. Now set up the next combination: 101001, and enter the teleporter.
Thaumaturge
You will have to face an illusionist thaumaturge and its summon when you are teleported here.
Pressure Plates
When you step on each of these pressure plates, the corresponding door will open, freeing an assault guardian. When both plates have been depressed, the central door will open. In the western alcove that opened up, look for a small knob at the top of the middle wall panel.
Secret #26
In this chest you will find Finisher, the best handgun in the game.
Launch Point
Chuck an item across the pit on to the pressure plate from here to close the pit (don’t get closer, or your item will fly over the pressure plate). You can retrieve your item after crossing over; the pit will stay closed.
Mirror #2
In the chest you will find a Mirror, an Alloy Sword, and a note with the next combination: 111010. Teleport back out to 17 and use this code (you will be teleported to the area far to the northeast on the walkthrough map).
Darkness
Your automap will not function in this region. You need to walk to the end of this passage, where you will be in total darkness, and then ‘return’ (you will be teleported to a different region but everything will feel unchanged) to the starting room where a waller thaumaturge will assault you. The northern door will open upon its death.
Elite Decoy Beacon
Look in the chest for an Elite Decoy Beacon, an Elite Buckler, a phonodiary, and a note with another combination. Beyond the door, an assault guardian behind some barrels is anticipating your arrival. Kill him and proceed to the teleporter, back to 17. Once more, use the new combination: 010001.
Elite Servo Booster
Turn around when you are teleported here and check the chest for an Elite Servo Booster and some ammunition.
Pressure Plate
When you step on the pressure plate, the door will close behind you and the three stationery crates will fall into the floor, revealing a berserker standing behind them. Two criers from the adjoining rooms may also join in. It is up to you whether you explore the rest of this region from either side or both sides. There is a crier in the northwestern room, and a berkersker each in the northeastern and north-central ones.
Mirror #3
Mirror mirror in the chest… actually only one Mirror, an Elite Mace, a Royal Rifle, and some ammunition.
Elite Acid Nozzle
Nestled in this chest is an Elite Acid Nozzle, Adamant Plating, and a note with the combination 011011. The teleporter will take you back to 17. You know what to do.
Switch
Two criers and two berserkers will spawn around the room when you flip this switch. Both the doors will open when they all die.
Elite Shield
In this chest you will find an Elite Shield, a Master Outfit, and a note with the last combination: 101100. The teleporter back is at the opposite end.
Mirror #4
The last Mirror, along with a Siege Warhammer, Chief Gloves, Chief Boots, and some ammunition can be found in this chest. On your way to the teleporter (past the northern crates), you will have to survive five stealth criers. Teleport back to 17, and go through the door at 12 to recharge the dead battery.
Switch
Move the mirror stand as shown and flip this switch to turn the laser on.
Hidden Button
Look carefully at the top of the laser’s housing for a hidden button. Press it to open a secret wall, which is hiding a second receiver for the laser. One by one, move the three northern mirror stands as shown, mount the mirrors on them, and rotate them so that the laser hits the second receiver. This will open yet another secret wall.
Secret #27
In this chest you will find Shredder and Stiff Clenchers. Now line up the last mirror stand as shown with its receiver to charge the battery. Take the battery from its slot (13), trudge back to 11, and place it in the box.
Boss Fight
Flip the switch at 10 to reanimate the firewave golem. The exit door will close, the northern and southern doors will open progressively, and you will have to fight a horde of enemies. The golem will fight alongside you. You can even leave it to do the heavy lifting while concentrating on surviving. The enemies include two assault guardians, a flamethrower guardian, two acid roaches, and two great roaches. Your golem will disintegrate when they are all dead if it survived the onslaught.
Switch
Flip this switch to open the two closed doors.
Elite Blowtorch
In this chest is an Elite Blowtorch, two Repair Kits, and some ammunition…
Golden Key
… and in this one is a Golden Key, two Energy Cells, and some more ammunition. Return to the central chamber and go down to The Office via B.
