Level 8: Poisoned Halls

  1. Ambush

    There is nothing you can do around the start of the level, so make your way down here. When you step into the room, the door will close behind you. Killing the roachling and acid roach will open all doors out. Just like the previous level, the objective is to open the way south, which is engulfed by poison gas instead of pits. Controllers to the east and west will turn on fans that suck out the poison gas. Let’s go west.
  2. Creatures

    You will have to fend off a poison spider and two acid roaches in this vast room, but there is nothing else of interest until you get here. As you walk around the perimeter to reach 3, the floor will start opening behind you, so don’t dawdle. You can attempt to press the hidden button just above the lamp on the way in, or follow the floor as it is closing on the return trip. If you don’t feel confident, you can step out to 5 to take a breath and wait until the floor is more favorable to move.
  3. Rusty Key

    Open this chest for a Rusty Key, a Superior Discharger, a Veteran Buckler, some ammunition and a phonodiary. If you didn’t already, press the hidden button to open two secret walls.
  4. Secret #20

    Tucked away in this chest are a Fumium Key, a Combat Fuse, and a Tech Fuse.
  5. Locked Door

    The Rusty Key will unlock this door.
  6. Pits Puzzle

    You will face only two poison spiders on your way to here. You may wish to save before proceeding.
  7. Puzzle Start

    Stepping here will start the puzzle, closing the door at 6. In a few seconds, an overhead lamp will light one floor tile for a brief moment, after which all but that floor tile will open. You need to follow the light and stand on the safe floor tile as this process repeats six more times. The spots where you need to stand are marked on the map. After successfully surviving the puzzle, the doors out of the room will open.
  8. Locked Door

    Use the Fumium Key to open this door.
  9. Resources

    To reach this chest, step on the pressure plates as marked on the map; each pressure plate toggles all the pits around it, and you will need to step on the northernmost one twice. The chest holds a Fumium Rod, a Combat Fuse, a Toughness Fuse, and a Fumium Capacitor.
  10. Silver Key

    In this chest is a Silver Key, an Advanced Decoy Beacon, some ammunition, and a phonodiary.
  11. Switch

    Flip this switch to open the way out, where three roachlings are waiting for you.
  12. Locked Door

    Unlock this door with the Silver Key.
  13. Lever

    Pull this lever to dissipate some of the poison gas in the central room. Return to 1 and continue north.
  14. Crates

    Push these crates to cover the steam venting out of the broken pipes.
  15. Brick

    In this chest are Foreman Gloves, a Superior Servo Booster, a Brick, some ammunition, and a phonodiary.
  16. Ambush

    Stepping on this pressure plate will shut the door behind you, and a cannon turret, an illusionist thaumaturge, and its summon will want to sap the life out of you.
  17. Lever

    Pull this lever to open both doors. Close the pit when you step out of the room.
  18. Launch Point

    Lob a Brick across the chasm on to the pressure plate to open the door on that side, then step on and off the pressure plate in this corridor to launch a spectral orb. When it hits its receptacle, the door here will open.
  19. Lever

    This lever will clear out the poison gas in the central room, allowing you to retrace your steps and proceed in that direction.
  20. Boss Fight

    Getting to the center of the room will close the door and start a boss fight, first against two roachlings and two great roaches. Then all the stationery crates will collapse into the floor and you will have to deal with two acid roaches and two assault guardians. The second phase will also start only while you are somewhere near the center of the room. The doors will open when all of them are dead.
  21. Superior Umbrella Field Generator

    In this chest is a Superior Umbrella Field Generator and a note…
  22. Fumium Key

    … and in this one are a Fumium Key, a Veteran Mace, and a Heavy Warhammer. The note found at 21 is important: it contains the code required at 27, and is random, so it is not possible to give a definitive code in the walkthrough. Check the note for the code.
  23. Toughness Fuse

    In this room, one fireball trap shoots constantly, and the other three are triggered by pressure plates. First, rush to the southeastern corner and press the button there to close the northern pit. Then navigate to the northwest corner of the room and press the button there to close the other pit. Finally, find a safe way to reach here. The chest has a Toughness Fuse and some ammunition.
  24. Supplies

    Getting to this chest will be much simpler. In it is a Repair Kit and some ammunition. Get out of the room when it is safe. You’ll have to take down two great roaches in the next room, and then walk all the way back to 1 and further north.
  25. Locked Door

    The Fumium Key will open this door. Within is an illusionist thaumaturge and its summon.
  26. Manipulator

    Your rewards are a Manipulator, a Superior Drainer, a Tech Fuse, and two Fumium Capacitors.
  27. Control Panel

    Using the five buttons, set up the lights on the panels to match the code in the Air Filter Chamber Defense note, then flip the switch up to clear the adjoining room of all poison gas. If you’ve been reading the notes as you come across them, this should be the one open in your Notes panel. It’s under Agatha Chertsey.
  28. Lever

    This lever opens the portal out.
  29. Boss Fight

    As soon as you open this door, you will be pulled across the chasm by a magnet golem. Two pits blocking your way out of the room will be covered only when it is defeated. The golem will drop a Superior Blowtorch.
  30. Commander Rifle

    Take a peek in this chest for a Commander Rifle, a Veteran Mantle, some ammunition, and a phonodiary. Continue on to the next level.
