Unit 9: Palace
Map city1: Outer Courts (5 secrets)
- Two secrets can be accessed from the very first area. First, go the long way around the high ledges to jump down over the door you emerged from. Press the switch, jump down and go in. You'll find that a door has opened to a room with health, ammo and body armor. Additionally, you can walk around the narrow ledge in that room to pick up adrenaline.
- In the cave to the left, shoot the cracked wall at the back and grab the power shield.
- Go through the sewage pipes to reach the data spinner. Shoot the panel to its right. Step on the switch that is revealed to open a secret room directly opposite. Take the adrenaline. Pressing the switch in this alcove extends a bridge outside this room.
- This is accessible only after #3. Return all the way to the start, again go around the perimeter to get over the entry door, and enter the cave that is now open. It has nothing more than a health pack.
- For this you have to deactivate the red force field in Lower Palace first. Just before entering the sewer pipes, surface to find a small room with ammo, health, a power shield, and a red key.
Map city2: Lower Palace (5 or 6 secrets)
- If you arrive via the red carpet from Outer Courts, this fountain will be right in front of you. Shoot both faces to lower the quad damage. Then jump down behind the fountain.
- In the room right of the blue lasers, shoot the warped grate. Crawl through for a power shield and adrenaline.
Deactivate the red force field by going left from the blue lasers, then go and grab Outer Courts #5. - This is available only on hard difficulties; you have to follow this route to get to #4 anyway. After disabling the red force field, you can make your way to the data spinner reprogramming computer. Follow the red carpet on the left to reach these shooters. You can temporarily block the shooters by hitting the light above them. However, shooting the odd brick in the wall (on hard difficulties only) deactivates them permanently.
- Keep following the red carpet to reach this lift. Shoot the painting on the wall for some rockets and health. You will emerge out in front of the reprogramming computer.
- Exit right from the computer to disable the green force field. In the green force field control room, push the panel in the wall opposite the entrance. A room with ammo, armor and mega health opens outside.
- You have to deactivate the yellow force field in Upper Palace before you can get this. Get in the same hole as #2. At the top of all the ladders is a room blocked off by the yellow force field. Going in gives you health and ammo of every kind.
Map city3: Upper Palace (7 secrets)
- Taking the lift from Lower Castle will deposit you in a room with two red force field doors. Beyond the right door, shoot the depression in the roof to open a secret door to some ammo and adrenaline.
- A little further you will get to these shooters. Jump into the lava, grab the quad damage, and safely emerge beyond the shooters.
- Go back to the first room, and this time take the lift up from the left door. Pick up the data CD via the non-carpeted route, return and follow the red carpet to the bridge with the exploding vents. At the end of the bridge, jump down next to the pillar. You will find ammo, health and armor. You will drop down in front of the shooters but you can run back to the start to return to Lower Palace before they can harm you.Finish your business with the data CD, then return to Upper Palace via the green force field control room exit, get the security pass, make the round trip to Upper Palace via the lift in Lower Palace, disable the yellow force field, and make the round trip back here once more, picking up Lower Palace #6 on the way.
- Now that most force fields are deactivated, jump down this shaft. An enemy will burst out of the roof after a few seconds. Shoot the button in the roof and be rewarded with an environment suit.
- Past the doorway, at the back of the pool, a slab of stone juts out. Pushing it opens a panel under the acid. Put on the environment suit, swim through the acid, pick up the adrenaline and continue on. You'll come out in a room with another environment suit. Bump into the computer to reveal John Carmack's head, shoot the container and pick it up; it is worth 5 adrenalines.
- In the same room as #5, shoot the lit-up wall opposite the rotating head. Grab the body armor, then shoot the wall beyond it and walk back out safely, avoiding a second trip through the acid.
Note: You could have entered this room via this route, but you can't carry two environment suits so might as well swim through the acid at least once. - At the top of the other lift which opens out to sliding doors, shoot the misaligned panel in the wall, and go in to pick up a power shield and invulnerability. Now you can jump back across the lift through the yellow force field doorway and finish the map.
