Reaching Illus
From Fawna, you need to return west across the bridge and travel north. You will see a cave (3), access to which is blocked by rocks. Face the cave and press Enter; Tiger will clear a path for you. You can now enter Illus Pass.
Illus Pass
There is an optional but extremely beneficial thing to do on your way to Illus. Travel east and defeat the quite difficult Ogien. If you are successful, Spear will be able to summon Ogien who can wipe out most enemies in one shot. This is the only spell that affects all enemies; all other spells are single-target. Although it consumes a substantial amount of mana, it can help win some difficult battles. Depending on your level, Spear may know a useful spell or two; most offensive spells do more damage than melee attacks.
Whether you choose to battle Ogien or not, wind your way via the north-west to the north-east where you will face another difficult monster, a Mega Wyrm. You will have to defeat it in order to progress. If you are unable, you will have to grind for levels until you are able to defeat it. Buying Herbs (for HP), Ether (for mana) and Revive (to resurrect dead party members) from one of the towns may also help.
Illus
In Illus, your only objective is to speak to Ryanna, a mage who will join your party. She is to the north-east and is a level higher than your own. Ryanna gets extremely powerful spells at higher levels. The shop at the south-west is one of the best in the game if you can afford their wares. All those items are also available as free loot a little later.
Exit Illus when you're done. Illus is peculiar among the villages in this game because you can exit via the west, south or east. The orange square marks your point of entry, but you can leave by stepping on any light green square too.
Dragon
Note that walking around the island to the east (marked X on the world map) will always trigger the same enemy: a very difficult dragon. You get a substantial amount of experience if you are able to survive the battle, but it is not recommended for any party under level 60. You can trigger the same creature multiple times.
