Map of Barren Desert
  1. Power Gem #19, Epic Item #16 & Gold Key You will be teleported here from the Ceremonial Chamber. The entire desert is crawling with mummies. On this run I counted 199, but I don’t know if this number is influenced by how many teleported into the Ceremonial Chamber, the numerous distractions I had, or if any mummies were killed by the golems (see below). I tried to avoid the latter outcome as best as possible, but it’s difficult to concentrate on staying alive and counting mummies at the same time. In any case, there are around 200 of them.
Two magma golems will start far away but will eventually find you, and the Trickster will also make an appearance. One golem will drop a Power Gem and the other will drop a Meteor Plate and a Gold Key. As usual, the Trickster will teleport away upon taking enough damage.
Try not to attract the attention of the golems until you have thinned out the mummies. With the Meteor Hammer, Ancient Claymore and fire spells, the mummies should be easy enough to handle, especially as they are so slow. They will come in a trickle; just have enough Energy Potions in reserve. Try and avoid getting surrounded. Do not use the Meteor Hammer on the golems though. Keep a fire shield up and have Healing Potions at the ready when combatting them. With the full Meteor set, one character can get a set bonus of 100% fire resistance.
  2. Crystal Flower Here lies a Crystal Flower.
  3. Serpent Blade On a pedestal here is a Serpent Blade. A fairly poor reward for a magnificent battle.
  4. Plate Greaves In the sand here are Plate Greaves and an Energy Potion.
  5. Easter Egg Dig this spot three times to excavate a benign Relic (the end boss from Legend of Grimrock). It does not count towards secrets or treasures; it’s just an easter egg.
  6. Scaled Cloak A Scaled Cloak can be picked up at this spot.
  7. Pellets You’ll find 10 Pellets here…
  8. Pellets … and here.
  9. Crystal Flower Another Crystal Flower can be found next to the Crystal of Life.
  10. Treasure #11 On our route, this is the last treasure chest you need to dig up. The locked chest has a Potion of Dexterity, a Potion of Resurrection, and a Silver Scepter of Isochronos.
Take the windgate at A to leave the desert. You will be teleported to a previously inaccessible part of Sleet Island (G). Walk or swim to the Forgotten River, visit the Hub if you want to unload, then make your way to Castle Nex (I; all four essences must be placed correctly around 14 for the door to open).
