Legend of Grimrock Walkthrough
Level 9: Goromorg Temple I
Secrets: 4, Treasures: 0, Toorum Notes: 1, Skulls: 0, Iron Doors: 1
- Pitroot Bread
Cut the drape here (by attacking it in melee) to reveal a shelf with a Pitroot Bread.
- Ornate Key
Hack away at the drape next to this door to find a button that opens it. Within, you’ll have to battle an uggardian who will drop an Ornate Key. There are also two scrolls on the shelves.
- Checkered Room
You’ll find a scroll on the northwestern shelf in this room (behind a drape). You need to place items on every alternate pressure plate (colored green) to open the gate ahead.
- Armoury
From the five shelves in this room you will be able to pick up five Broadhead Arrows, a Lightning Bomb, a Longsword, an Iron Basinet and a Ring Mail. Whether you are using bows or not, you will require either an arrow or a bolt later on this level.
- Secret #60
A hidden button to the north opens a secret door to the south in this room. You’ll have to defeat another uggardian to be able to claim an axe named Norja.
- 180° Spinners
There are 180° spinners at both these points. When you notice the walls change, turn around and continue.
- Gold Key
Within the Temple Grounds beyond this door is a long set of passages infested with Ice Lizards, which respawn regularly. They may drop Ice Lizard Steaks. One of them will also drop a Gold Key.
- Secret #61
You’ll have to go around the bend to find the hidden button that opens this secret door. On the floor you’ll find Pit Fighter Gauntlets, a Lightning Bomb and a Fire Bomb.
- Locked Door
This door can be opened by flipping a lever far to the east. Take the Scroll of Lightning Bolt from the shelf (even if you don’t want to carry it, take it off the shelf).
- Circlet of War
On the floor here look for a Circlet of War.
- Lightning Bombs
There are two Lightning Bombs on this shelf. Keep an eye out for two Tar Beads as you venture south towards 12.
- Outer Sanctum
Use the Ornate Key from 2 to open this door. When you step in, the door will shut and three uggardians will spawn. A button on a southwestern wall in the central room will open the door, letting you back out.
There are three teleporters in the adjoining three rooms, and stepping into them will transport you back to the central one. Go through the teleporters in this order: western room (a scroll will spawn at the foot of the central statue), northern room, southern room, western room. You’ll be teleported to 13.
- Secret #62 & Ornate Key
Standing on this pressure plate is keeping the pit in front of you closed. Step forward to fall down it. Down there, search for a Tar Bead and a Pitroot Bread. You can also pick up a scroll through the closed gate. You don’t need to follow its instructions though.
Place any item by the north wall in the western-most cell, and another by the east wall in the northern-most cell (depicted by rock icons on the map). Stand where the lines intersect and the gate will open, revealing a Cuirass of Valor. You can retrieve the items once the gate is open. Use the teleporter to return upstairs.
Upon returning, if you go north or south, poison clouds will be released on you. Your goal is to open the door ahead and reach 14. Drop an item on the pressure plate you’re standing on, then step forward. The next pit periodically opens and closes. When you can, hold an item, step onto the pit when it closes, drop the item through the gate on to another pressure plate, and quickly step back.
When the gate is fully open, go through and flip the lever you find. Look for a hidden button next to the pressure plate. Pressing it will keep the pit next to it closed for a longer time. Run across, avoiding the intermittent teleporter, and flip another lever. With both levers down, the door to 14 will open, giving you access to an Ornate Key. Take it and return via the teleporter to the Outer Sanctum.
- Ornate Key
On this shelf is an Ornate Key that you will need at 23.
- Pillared Hallway
Look for two Tar Beads in an alcove on your way to here.
To get through this hallway, start next to the rune, and go forward twice on the left, once on the right, once on the left, thrice on the right, and twice on the left. Repeat this pattern once more and you’ll be out. Fortunately you need to do this only the first time you use this hallway.
- Lurker Hood
On this shelf (behind a drape) is a Lurker Hood. It is being guarded by new enemies called shrakk torr.
- Toorum’s Note #10
Under a Rock here is a note scribbled by Toorum.
- Locked Door
A hidden button to the south opens this door. On the shelf inside is a Book of Infinite Wisdom. If you took the Scroll of Lightning Bolt (9) off the shelf and also took the Ornate Key (14), picking up this book will cause all the walls around you to rise.
- Sulphurous Potion
Standing on this pressure plate will open the door next to it. On the shelf is a Sulphurous Potion.
- Locked Door
To open this door, you need to place four specific items on the four empty shelves, as demanded by the runes next to them:
Game’s Bane, with head of steel: Arrow or Quarrel
Tear of the Land: Rock
Severed Dread: Skull
Unraveller of Mysteries: Key
Once the door opens, you can retrieve your items. On the shelf outside the door is a scroll.
- Treasury
In this Treasury, you have a choice between a Book of Infinite Wisdom to the south, Plate Greaves and two Frost Bombs to the west, and a Flarefeather Cap and a Serpent Bracer to the north, depending on how many Gold Keys you are carrying and want to spend.
- Iron Door #9 & Secret #63
To open this Iron Door, place a Bone Amulet on the shelf, and you will be rewarded with Zhandul’s Orb.
- Gate & Spiral Tunnel
Use the Ornate Key from 14 to open this gate, which leads into a long spiraling tunnel. You’ll be confronted by two ogres as you make your way to the end.
If you go deep in and return, a new wall will have closed in on you. A hidden button nearby opens it.
At the end, go down the stairs to Level 10: Goromorg Temple II (B).
From now on you will no longer require specific items such as Torches, Skulls, etc. to solve puzzles (except one item, which you will find later when you need it), only random junk and equipped projectiles to weigh down pressure plates.
- Stairs up to Level 8.
- Stairs down to Level 10.
