This is a reproduction of Sierra’s walkthrough with a few minor corrections and improvements. Directions in grey are all optional; you can finish the game with full points even if you ignore these actions.

Act I: Living the Coarsegold Dream

Location Action Points
West Central Main Street Talk to Billy who is boarding up the Dirty Sheet Hotel. Go one screen west.
West Main Street Look at smithy's horse and talk to Smithy. Business is not going well. Walk one screen east and enter Mom's cafe.
Mom's Cafe Talk twice to mom and twice to Hop. Look at the cupboard and the large red bottle.
Get the empty can of beans. 1/1
Exit to main street and walk one screen East.
East Central Main Street Notice the closed Post office. Look at both other stores and the barber pole. Enter Chester Field's store.
Store Look at and talk to Willy. Look at the horse shoe and paper notifications.
Get the paper bag from the counter. 1/2
Exit and walk one screen east.
East Main Street Look at the buildings, and look at and talk to Dominic. Go east.
School house Look at the buildings, talk to the girl jumping the rope, and twice to Penelope when she comes out of school. Walk east.
Swamp Look at the wagon, the reservoir, the miner's commissary and the bubbles in the swamp when they appear. Return to East Main Street.
East Main Street Unlock the pharmacy with the key and enter. 500/502
Pharmacy Look at the diploma and the shelves on the left. Click on the counter gate to go behind the counter.
Penelope will give a prescription that needs to be filled. Talk a bit with her until she asks to get the medicine. Then enter the backroom of the pharmacy.
Backroom Look at the closet, mountain painting, carpet, bookshelf and other things.
Click on the work area to start work. Look at the prescription in the inventory.
Put the graduated cylinder (bottom shelf left) on the counter.
Use Pepticlymacine Tetrazole (top shelf, green bottle) on the graduated cylinder eight times (40 ml).
Put a medicine bottle on the counter and use the graduated cylinder on the medicine bottle.
Put the graduated cylinder away and put a cork on the medicine bottle.
Pharmacy Return to the main pharmacy room and give the medicine bottle to Penelope. 10/512
Helen "Mom" Back enters the pharmacy with another prescription. Go back to your work area.
Work Area Look at the prescription.
Put the graduated cylinder on the counter.
Use the Bismuth Enterosalicyline (top left purple bottle) three times on the graduated cylinder (15 ml).
Put the beaker on the counter, use the graduated cylinder on it.
Use the Phenodol Oxytriglychlorate (central shelf, large left jar) six times on the balance (30 mg).
Use the balance pan on the beaker (45 ml).
Put the balance pan back, stir the beaker with a stirring rod and use the stirring rod on the waste receptacle.
Click the beaker on the pill machine and put the beaker back.
Pick up a medicine bottle and click it on the pill machine seven times to empty it.
Put a cork on the bottle.
Return to the apothecary and give it to Mom. 10/522
Madame Sadie Ovaree enters with a prescription. Try reading it. Since you can't you'll have to see doc Gillespie who wrote it.
Leave the pharmacy, go two screens to the left and enter the Golden Balls Saloon.
Saloon Look at and talk three times to Sam Andreas the bartender. Look at the wheel of fortune and bottles above the bar. Talk to the moose head.
Talk to the Doc a few times. Take his glass when it's on the table. 1/523
Open up your inventory screen and use the glass on the prescription to read it. 10/533
Give the glass/prescription combination to the Doc and he'll correct it. 7/540
Return to the work area in the pharmacy, talking to Pete on the way.
Work Area Use Bimethylquinoline (central shelf) three times on the balance (15 mg).
Put the mortar and pestle on the counter and click the balance pan on it.
Use Metyraphosphate (top right large jar) three times on the balance (15 mg).
Click the pan on the mortar & pestle (30 mg).
Click on the mortar & pestle to grind it.
Lay out six medicinal papers on the counter. Pick up the measuring spatula, and click on the mortar & pestle and then on one of the papers. Do this for all six papers.
Put the spatula and the mortar and pestle back on the shelf.
Put a prescription box on the counter and put each paper in the box.
Pharmacy Give the box to Madame Ovaree 10/550
Smithy will hobble in, having pain in the butt.
Get the purple tube of Preparation G on the top of the left table in the store. 1/551
Give the tube to Smithy. He'll tell you he's leaving town, and pays his pharmacy tab of $4.87. 3/554
Sheriff Shift comes in and informs you that your pharmacy is a fire hazard, because the building is made of wood. You'll have to close down your pharmacy, like many other businesses in town.

Act II: The Plot Sickens

Put the beaker on the counter and use the balance pan on it.
Put the graduated cylinder on the counter. Use Furachlordone (top shelf, 4th left brown bottle) on the cylinder three times (15 ml) and add it to the beaker.
Use water (central shelf small bottle) on the graduated cylinder nine times (45 ml) and pour it in the beaker.
Use Magnesium Sulfate (central shelf, far left) once on the balance (5 mg), and add it in the beaker.
Stir the beaker with a stirring rod, pour the contents into a medicine bottle, and put a cork on it. 5/609

Snail Stampede

Go to the bridge and return to the cliff to see Cedric being eaten by the buzzards.

Work Area Place 25 ml of Bismuth Subsalicylate (top shelf pink bottle) into the graduated cylinder and pour it into the test tube.
Measure 5 ml of Orphenamethihydride (top shelf, central brown bottle) and pour that into the test tube.
Light the alcohol lamp, and heat the test tube over it.
Pour the content into a medicine bottle and cork it.
East Bluff Street Click the ladder on the right side of the tower. 2/671
Walk up on the ladder (using the boot icon), stand on the deck, get the ladder and place it on the deck. 4/675

Put the crucible at the alcohol lamp to melt the medallion.

Barber Shop Give Sal the French postcards to get nitrous oxide. 5/837

Behind Saloon Go up the stairs to the hotel's balcony and put the laughing gas on the middle of the banners. 5/842

West Main Street Kenny the Kid (who shot Freddy's ear off long ago) arrives. Shoot him as soon as you regain control. You will knock the gun out of his hand but he'll shoot Freddy's other ear off!

Confronting Penelope
School Quickly click on your gun belt with the hand to drop your guns when she tells you to do so. Then quickly grab the slate on the desk to block her shot. 10/907

Use the ear on the floor to sharpen it. 10/918

Classroom Quickly grab the other sabre before Penelope gets to you. 1/929
