- The refinishing room at Brass Monkey Antiques smells terrible. It contains silver cans filled with acetone, a flammable liquid.
- Ms. Case says she gave matches from Swanks Hotel to Mr. Edwards.
- The fire at Grimes Novelties and Gags was started with acetone, a highly flammable liquid.

Reckless Robber
- Lefty Poltroon is 6'1" and weighs 230 lbs. He has blond hair and blue eyes.
- Mr. Green says that the gunman had blue eyes.
- Mr. Washington saw the bank robber in the mirror. He said the gunman carried the gun in his right hand.
- Mirrors show things in reverse.

Cryptic Cavern
- Many bats roost in Duffy’s cave. There must be another opening…
- Mark Moriarty was a member of the Cave Crawlers, but he dropped out a month ago.

- Mark says that seeds, or spores, will make him rich soon.

- There is a pearl earring beneath the coat rack where the mink coat used to be. The earring is for a pierced ear.
- Mrs. Harper says she overheard Melinda Joost tell Mrs. Meniski to leave her house key for her under the mat.

- Mrs. Harper has a lot of unpaid bills.

- Chuck saw that both Madame Wen and her daughter carried bags and suitcases up into the Andrew Jackson Suite.
- Ali Bandar is sure that the fibers that the thief used to pack the Buddha grow only in India, and were picked less than a month ago.
- Passports are official documents that are marked every time you enter a new country.
- Madame Wen went to Tibet about three weeks ago. Then she went to India…

- Mark says that he chased Watson through the park this morning, but Watson was moving too quickly for Mark to catch him.

- The treasure map says that the treasure is buried near either Wraith Rock, Lone Tree, Liberty Tavern, or Harrison Hole.

- There is a very old stone wall near the entrance to Harrison Hole.

- Nina Hernandez is a very fast runner, and won the state championship when she was in high school.

- Nancy Marx says she saw a big fur coat in one of the back rooms just before the clown appeared.
- Mark Moriarty says that after the theft, he saw a gorilla coming out of a cloakroom.

- Someone dropped a video game token by the cooler. It may have been the thief.
- If you leave a pop bottle or other sealed container full of liquid in a freezer overnight, the liquid will expand and crack open the bottle.
- Dave Grant paid Mark Moriarty 5 Quartertime tokens to deliver all the flyers for him.
- Mark Moriarty says he found the soda bottles that he donated to the barbecue. He says they were in his dad’s freezer and were frozen solid.

- Ms. Camille says the moon rock is a sedimentary rock, from the Sea of Tranquility on the moon.
- Ms. Camille says that moon rocks are very rare. Collectors would pay a lot of money to get a real rock from the moon.
- Sedimentary rocks are formed from materials found on the bottom of ancient oceans, lakes and streams -- any place that stays under water.
- The moon has always been totally dry and lifeless. The flat areas of the moon are called seas, but they never had any water on them.

- Like a car, the exercycle has a speedometer, to tell you how fast you are riding. It also has an odometer …
- The odometer on the exercycle currently reads 99,049.9.
- Mrs. Garcia rode about 38 miles on the exercycle. She says to ride more than that is hard work.
- Mrs. Garcia wrote down the odometer reading on the exercycle when she was done: it was 99,000.0.

- Somebody looked at the quiz computer file at 5:21. If no one else could have done it, it must have been Mr. Minas himself.
- Mr. French says Dave Grant entered the Pisa Pizza Palace at 5:15 and left with Mark Moriarty sometime after 6:00.
- Ms. Lipper says Cheryl Hane was in Sweet Treats at least an hour, working on her math homework. She left about 6:00 P.M.
- Professor Krank’s time clock for yesterday shows Troy Nguyen began work at 5:18 and checked out at 7:09.

Baffling Bones
- The bones are half-buried in the ground a few feet from the fort. They are yellow and old-looking.
- Dr. Knox says the bones appear to be the skeleton of an Ice Age human, about 10,000 years old. He is sure the bones weren’t buried in the vacant lot during the last few weeks. He thinks they’ve been there for years.
- Being buried in the ground a long time stains bones.
- The experts at the State Capital have seen a photo of the bones, and they say Mark really may have found the skeleton of an Ice Age person…

Vanishing Violin
- Mr. Peel says two letters from the same place in Poland arrived yesterday. He says he delivered one to Mark Moriarty and the other to Brass Monkey Antiques.
- Mark Moriarty said he needs to mail something fragile to Europe.
- Ms. Polaria wanted to send pictures of her violin to Poland, so an expert there could appraise her violin’s value. Mark Moriarty helped her put the package together by taking photographs of the old violin.
- Ms. Polaria’s letter from Poland told her that the violin was worth a lot of money. They offered to pay her $5,000 for the violin, no questions asked.

Dangling Diamond
- Robbers pried open the door with a crowbar and smashed the glass case.
- The necklace was insured for $50,000.
- Mr. Medford’s tools are dusty, but his crowbar is clean.
- Mr. Medford owes Sam Poholsky $30,000 for the work he did on Medford’s Jewelers six months ago. He told Mr. Poholsky last night that he would be getting the money, and would pay within two weeks.

Puzzling Pooches
- Dr. Kenara saw Mrs. Preston in the woods near the Dog Show just after the obedience trials.
- Professor Krank says that someone at the dog show was using a silent dog whistle.
- Mrs. Preston trained all of the dogs that failed the obedience trial in field training using a silent whistle to command the dogs.
- Mrs. Preston was very upset when Misha, Kiki and Chatto left her school to go to Moondog Academy.

Mysterious Monster
- Mark says that the monster was swimming and blowing smoke just 50 feet from the shore and had a long neck he could see through the fog.
- Mark Moriarty told Will Barr that he saw the monster clear as day, and that it was taller than the biggest building in town.
- Steve Shredd says the water near Buccaneer Beach is very shallow…
- Plesiosaurs were marine dinosaurs that grew up to 40 feet long. They lived in deep water near here millions of years ago. Like all dinosaurs, they are extinct.

Attacking Aliens
- Sgt. Morrow says that he noticed a strange fog surrounding the alien he saw. He says that fog is very unusual this time of year.
- Mrs. Duffy says that Farmer Duffy stayed inside last night after watching Unbelievable Stories on television.
- A blue canister marked “Ultivision Professional 35mm” is lying in Farmer Duffy’s barn.
- Dangmar Gregg’s films use an unearthly fog effect that has become his trademark.

Antique Autograph
- The autograph is framed. It is written on a smooth piece of paper, yellowed with age, and torn across the top. It reads, “Geo. Washington, Continental Army, 1781.”
- Burglars broke into Mrs. Harper’s house three years ago. They took a letter to Josiah Harper that was signed by George Washington and tore it in half. They stole only the bottom half, with Washington’s signature.
- The George Washington signature on the document on the wall at Brass Monkey Antiques looks like the autograph Bobby bought from Jackie King.
- The top half of the letter written to Mrs. Harper’s ancestor by George Washington is in the Historical Society. The writing in the letter looks like the writing on the autograph…

Reappearing Recipe
- After Mr. Carrichi heated the pizza box in the oven, the secret recipe appeared on top of the box in scorched-looking brown writing.
- Eddie, Mr. Carrichi’s new pizza delivery man, took the pizza that would have been in the marked box to room 418 in Swanks Hotel.
- Using milk or lemon juice, you can write an invisible message that only becomes visible when exposed to heat.
- Mr. French says that he caught Eddie lounging around in the storeroom this morning, chewing on toothpicks.

Ghastly Ghost
- Nicola Hamble says business at the Egyptian Theater has been bad. But now lots of people are coming to the theater to see the ghost.
- Mr. Starr says the balcony is unsafe, which is why the Fire Department ordered him to lock the door. Only he has a key.
- The fire safety inspection says that nothing is wrong with the balcony, except that the single flight of stairs that leads up there is too narrow.
- After the ghost lady faded away, the lights came on, and Mike Walker heard footsteps on the balcony.

Crazy Compass
- Alex has a magnet in the front pocket of his backpack but he says it isn’t his. His compass is pointing to the pocket that the magnet is in instead of north.
- Dave Grant did his science project on magnetism. He was very upset that his project did not win first place.
- A strong magnetic field will upset the accuracy of a compass.
- Dave Grant put something into the pocket of one of the Explorer Club backpacks, but he doesn’t belong to the club.

Counterfeit Card
- The baseball card Michael and Christopher found was buried inside a very old tin box. The bottom of the card reads “Wagner, Boston Aimer.”
- Heinie Wagner played shortstop for the Boston Red Sox, in the American League, from 1906-1918.
- Mark Moriarty bought a 1910 tin box, just like the one Michael and Christopher found in the park, from Mrs. Meniski at her last yard sale.
- Mrs. Meniski thinks her mother and her uncle used the metal boxes to hide their favorite possessions back in 1910. Her mother collected silver, and her uncle collected baseball cards.
