Dark Sun: Shattered Lands Walkthrough

25. Gedron

Gedron is one of the villages that can potentially ally with Teaquetzl for the war, but they are faced with troubles of their own. Before they agree to the partnership, we need to take care of all their woes, which involves three surrounding maps. Within the village itself, nearly everyone is enthralled by some being and will speak gibberish until you break the enchantment. We also need to hand over the ranike pith extract to Linara.

Monsters never spawn on this map.

Speak to the mayor at 2 and ask him about the nonsense going on in town. Keep talking to him and eventually you will be addressed by the voice of Wyrmias, the one who has enthralled the villagers. You can ask him all sorts of questions, and eventually instruct him to release the spell. Wyrmias is agreeable to this, but only if you bring two pieces of a statue to him. Agree to do his bidding. He will manifest near the well at 8 to the south, but has nothing interesting to say right now.

Walk over to the green tapestry at 3 and use it. The way into the room will open. There are empty chests at spots marked X, but we are more interested in the carpet with a snake embroidered on it at 4. Use it to lift a corner, then have a thief pick the lock (may take a couple of tries) on the safe that is revealed. The thief who does this gets 500xp.

Bashing the safe open will spring a trap on it.

You’ll get 2,000cp, the gem for the local obelisk, a bracelet to learn or upgrade Life Draining, and the big prize: El’s Drinker, a +2 sword that confers Vampiric Touch on every hit, leeching life from enemies (extra damage on top of base damage) to heal the wielder. If already at full health, it can even raise your current HP temporarily, although if the HP is already past max, it can bring it down a bit (but never below the max value). Now we are wielding only one mundane weapon, either a metal long sword or axe.

Rest up at 5 and hand over the pith extract to Linara to be rewarded with a scroll of Dispel Magic (level 3). Being the only coherent one in the village, she can also give you some background information about what is going on here. Go ahead and insert the gem in the obelisk at 6. You can sell any extra items (like the Wand of Metal Detection) to Melkar at 7. For now he only sells junk, but despite his state he offers full price for everything. That’s all we can do in the village for now.

If you wish, you can go down the well at 8 to deal with A’Poss, but since we have an obelisk here, I’ll do that sequence of events as a continuous chain later.

We could leave at 9 to begin the hunt for the statue pieces at Silt Sea South, but since we have the obelisk in Gedron active, we’ll make our way to Cedrilte, with a stop on the way. Exit at 1, and then at 7 from the Hot Springs to reach the Salt Oasis.
