Dark Sun: Shattered Lands Walkthrough
43. Preparations for Wake of the Ravager
When you have finished doing everything you want to in Shattered Lands, you need to prepare your party for Wake of the Ravager if you intend to play that game with a party imported from Shattered Lands. As mentioned earlier, several items work differently in Wake of the Ravager, and some items are totally transmuted into something else.
The other big factor to keep in mind is that if you import even a single character into Wake of the Ravager, the game will set itself to Hideous difficulty and there is no way to change that until after the first fight. Several players have died in the first fight because of this, especially since the game gives no signal of the difficulty change and this is not mentioned anywhere in the manual either.
So, if you equip your characters with items that transmute into ceramic pieces, that’s what you will be fighting the first battle in Wake of the Ravager with!
43.1. Item Translation between Games
Here is how magical items translate from Shattered Lands to Wake of the Ravager. The armors are not mistakes. Arm armor is indeed converted into leg armor and vice versa. Question marks indicate properties I haven’t been able to verify.
Additional damage properties (fire, leech, etc.) on weapons all become charged abilities and the item disappears from your hand (without notification) when the charges are used up. Icons signifying effects on all items are all different from the actual effects. If the item has more than one charge (i.e., it is not a fruit), the correct icon will be displayed after the first use.

43.2. My Selections
Because of how cheesy Wake of the Ravager is about forcing me into Hideous difficulty (I would have been okay with Hard) without even telling me, not to mention deprecating the usefulness of several items, I am going to cheese right back.
I will use the Multiplying Items exploit to equip everyone with the best gear. Everyone will get a pair of Dragon’s Bane (one in hand, one in the inventory), +1 Phrain’s Bow, 20 +3 Arrows, Helm of Contemplation, Silver Necklace, Living Cloak, Silk Armor, Belt of Might, Tanelyv's Arm Armor, Tanelyv's Leg Armor, and El's Ring. Bellatrix and Castor will wear Rings of Insight, while Arcturus and Dubhe will wear Steadfast Rings. The latter two could take Wind Rings instead, but the cloak halves missile damage which doesn’t hurt much to begin with. The higher constitution will give them an additional +2 to save vs. poison (total +3).
I’ll also bring one El's Drinker because it is involved in the game’s plot. It’s not needed though. Finally, I will carry both the shovel and the stone pick in my inventory because two stone picks are required in Wake of the Ravager (for completionists at least).
I will be carrying all my bags into Wake of the Ravager, although this is not necessary. You can buy an unlimited number of bags for very cheap, but it’s tedium—you have to quit and reinitiate dialog for the shop’s inventory to refresh, buying only one bag at a time.
On that note, certain chests and bags get transformed into ceramic pieces and you will never see the items they held again! You will have to import your characters, check if this happens, see which chests or bags have got ‘corrupted’, replace those with others, then re-import. If you need to experiment with containers, there are many in the Wyrm Belly.
What fruits you carry are up to you. If you have any curative fruits left, they would be nice to have in Dark Sun 2. Anything else you carry can be sold for money (or is transmuted into money).
43.3. Special Notes
Note that among my selections is the Helm of Contemplation which gets transformed into +2 Chest Armor, and the Belt of Might which becomes +1 Chest Armor. Although chest armors, they remain equipped as long as you don’t pick them up. So, you can have that extra +3 AC throughout the game.
Of course, you are welcome to go ahead and import a strictly legal party, but at least keep the item translations in mind when equipping your party for the sequel. It is recommended to make a separate save specifically for transferring to Wake of the Ravager, just so your originally equipped party is available if you want to return to this game later.
Congratulations. You have finished Dark Sun: Shattered Lands. Play again
