Dark Sun: Shattered Lands Walkthrough

40. Captured Gladiators

Several gladiators have been captured and imprisoned at the northwest, but their captors are extremely lazy. They are waiting for the Ssurans from Silt Sea South who were waiting there for them!

Arant is at 2 and you can buy the gladiators from him for 8,000cp (haggled down from his initial ask of 10,000cp). My distaste for slavers drives me to kill them all though. A guard will question you if you try to reach Arant before beginning combat. He can be easily intimidated. If you ask Arant what’s wrong with his guards, he will kill one of them outright (the dialogue says he is unconscious, but he never gets back up), but you won’t get that extremely minor XP.

Unfortunately they are all spread out, so melee combat will involve a lot of movement points, but I can use a few fireballs (spells and Iron Necklace) to help along the way. You could spend the money to buy the slaves to get all of them to bunch up as they are leaving, if you don’t find that too expensive of a trade. Other than that, geared up and leveled up as we are, this is a very easy battle.

Arant drops Grey Scale arm and leg armor, which give 2 AC each. Whether you purchased the slaves or killed their captors, speak to Karas at 3 and tell him that Wyrmias is dead and that no reward is necessary (he can’t sign up the village to ally with Teaquetzl). Watch them all leave to the south (turn off animations), then follow them into the village.

Hand over Jasmine’s spell book to Linara. There is no reward involved unfortunately. Speak to the mayor and ask him to join the alliance. He will be more than happy to, for which the party gets 4,000xp.

40.1. War Preparations

Teleport to Teaquetzl and speak to the war council at 2. They will tell you that the war is very near and that you must prepare yourself. There are also rewards waiting for us in the hut. The large chest at 5 will now have a scroll of Turn Pebble to Boulder (level 4), six Arrows +2, an orange, and +1 Phrain’s Bow, which does additional acid damage for two rounds (the best ranged weapon in the game).

Critical: If you have things left to do out in the world (say, buy bracelets from Maris in Nazca Lines), do not approach the war council. Once you speak to them the only way forward is the path to war (eventually). You will not even be able to use Llod’s Rod to sneak out of the village.

Rest up, make sure everyone is equipped with all the correct gear, sell what you want to, then attempt to leave Teaquetzl at 1. The visionary will intervene and mention some ruins. After the conversation, when you actually leave the village, you will be transported to Korbnor.
