Dark Sun: Shattered Lands Walkthrough

31. Temple Ruins

31.1. Tynan

Overhead map of Teaquetzl

Go down the well in Teaquetzl at 11 to reach the temple ruins. Approach the shadow at 2 and it will warn you about a curse. Be brave, then stay a while and listen to the story of Tristram, A’Poss, and himself. Tynan will want you to gather their heart crystals. Agree to help him and Tynan will sense the presence of his own crystal, but bemoan the lack of Tristram’s.

31.2. Tristram

Overhead map of the Red Sands Plateau

Using Tynan’s heart while standing in the rings at T will teleport you from one to the other, but there isn’t much we can do at the other end yet. Exit at 1, then teleport to the Red Sands Plateau. From there, head south to the Wagon Train. Use a rope to go down into the chasm under the bridge at 6.

Had we already got the grappling hook from Silt Sea North, you could have used that to climb down too.

You will appear at 3 in the temple ruins. Tristram is at 4. She is incoherent and her speech goes around in circles, but keep speaking to her. When you finally get the chance, say that you are here to take her, and that you must inform the escort that Tristram has been found. Ask for proof of the latter, then say you’ll take the crystal. End the conversation and each party member gets 500xp. You will now have Tristram’s Heart (named Tristram-heart in the game). Use it, and Tristram’s spirit will be absorbed into it. Each party member gets an additional 1,000xp.

We now have all three crystals. Leave at 3, teleport back to Teaquetzl, and again go down the well. Tynan will agree to be absorbed into his crystal. Use his heart for yet another 1,000xp each.

31.3. A’Poss

Overhead map of Gedron

Teleport to Gedron and use the well at 8 to go down it. This will lead you to 5 in the temple ruins. Turn the zombies at Z, but be careful to not include the shadow at 6 in the turn box. Follow the next sequence exactly, or it can bug out. Stand next to the shadow (it’s A’Poss, though the game calls him Aposs), drop his heart crystal, then pick it and add it back to your inventory.

Speak to the shadow and free A’Poss (if you ask questions, the option to free him may disappear). He will reward you with a scroll of Summon Shadow (level 5), but will also go hostile and attack. Good riddance. Leave at 5 when he’s vaporized.

31.4. The Lovers

Overhead map of Cedrilte

Teleport to Cedrilte and go down the well at 8. This time you’ll appear at 7. Zeefram, the zombie, is not hostile. He will warn you about going further but will do nothing to stop you. In fact, now that we’ve met Tynan, you can drop his name and Zeefram will even become friendly, but this is not necessary.

Turn the hostile zombies at Z if you wish, then head to Tynan’s room at 9 (there’s a Sword Blank at 8 but it has no known use in the game). Use the diary on the floor to obtain a scroll of Hold Undead (level 3). If you wish, you can read through the rest of the diary for more story. The chest (X) is empty.

A character with low dexterity will cause Tynan’s diary to fall apart and you won’t be able to read it.

Go to the altar at 10 and first place Tristram’s heart on it. Each party member is rewarded with 1,000xp. Place Tynan’s heart on it and the temple will shake, breaking down all the walls that barred your way so far. Tynan’s spirit will give you permission to take whatever you wish, and each party member will get 6,000xp. Not bad for a little teleporting around. But there’s more. The previously inaccessible areas of the temple have some nice rewards waiting for us.

Buff up before going around to plunder, because apart from undead (which can all be turned from a safe distance), you may come across a hard-hitting enemy or two. 11 has just piles of ceramics (don’t miss the tiny piles that are mostly hidden by the southern wall of the room), but the weapon rack at 12 has a +2 Mace. Since it is a heavy weapon, it will replace one of my +1 axes. The chest at 13 has a Storm Ring, which can cast Ice Storm. The official cluebook says it has 50 charges, but I haven’t been able to test that.

There are more ceramics at 14. The bag to its south is empty, but the chest further south might have some minor loot. Another cache of ceramics at 15 clears out the place. Leave by whichever exit you wish (3 is the nearest), and teleport to Cedrilte. Rest up, exit to the east to Nazca Lines, and from there go south at 7 to reach the Lava Rift. We have enough +2 or better weapons now.
