Dark Sun: Shattered Lands Walkthrough

26. Salt Oasis

If you had surrendered to the elf slavers (whether Tobrian sold you to them or you found them on your own), they would have brought you to 1. The druid from 2 would have taken your side along with a pair of water elementals, making that fight much easier (apart from the terrain itself being more open).

Walk up to the druid at 2 and he will tell you of his troubles. The defiler he speaks about is at 3. You can ask the druid to join you, but I prefer to leave him standing in his spot in case he gets in the way of my fireballs. Buff up before going there if you want a battle. There are a couple of ways to go about this quest. As you can see, there are a lot of dots on the map, and they are all spread out. Melee battle will involve expending a lot of movement points, but if this is how you choose to proceed, be rude right from the start.

The first guard you walk up to can be easily intimidated if you spin a story about having a message from Draj that’s for the Templar’s ears only. He’ll give you the password into the camp. He’ll declare that he’s leaving, and will appear to do so, but he’ll park himself at 4. As you go through the camp, each guard will try to stop you, but giving them the password will suffice.

Takan at 3 will begin a conversation when you approach him. You will have multiple ways to convince him to leave the area and many of them will work. The easiest route is to say you have a message from Dagolar in Draj, and that this camp is to return to the city. If you do this, they will start bunching up at one spot to eventually leave, but only for a few seconds—if you can’t get a fireball on them in time they will despawn, so don’t wait for all of them to be in range. Of course, you could just let them go, but Takan has a very valuable item we want. Doing it this way will require less movement steps during combat.

The guard from 4 will probably be non-hostile but will be walking towards the camp. Be sure to kill him too. When everyone is dead, the party gets an extra 4,000xp. Takan will drop a guava, a lemon, and an Obsidian Necklace, which can be used to cast Disintegrate, or can be sold for 50,000cp.

Report your success to the druid, and he’ll tell you about some treasure to be found later. Leave the map at 5 to reach Nazca Lines, trade with the psionicist at 4 if you wish, and from there go west at 6 to reach Cedrilte.
