Dark Sun: Shattered Lands Walkthrough

19. Sand Oasis

Overhead map of the Sand Oasis

There are two things to do on this map. First, we need to acquire Tyrian butterfly wings for Notaku. You’ll notice some flying around at 2. You could attack them, but that will make the druid presiding over this region quite unhappy (you can apologize to him after the fact and regain his favor).

19.1. Tyrian Butterfly Wings

Instead, use the Seedpod at 2 and the druid will thank you for doing a good deed for nature. You can ask him for butterfly wings, which he’ll happily hand over. Each party member will receive 1,000xp and the speaker will receive six wings. You could still attack the butterflies to get even more wings, but six will be enough for Notaku (though he will never stop whining about them). You’ll get 300cp per wing.

You can plant the rest of the seedpods. That will yield nothing except a warm fuzzy feeling.

To my knowledge, random monsters never spawn on this map.

19.2. A Dish Served Cold

Remember the Announcer from the arena? He has somehow ended up at 3. He deserves some revenge for what he put us through, don’t you think? Speak to him and be aggressive. If you press him, he will reveal the location of the chest in Nazca Lines that we’ve already found.

He’ll summon six guards and try to run away. Fireball works extremely well here to hit all of them before hostilities begin. The guards drop their usual mundane gear but the Announcer drops a decent chunk of change in the form of gems and non-magical rings, plus a scroll of Stoneskin (level 4).

You can choose to return to Notaku now to turn in the butterfly wings, or hang on to them and hand them over much later, possibly after you’ve acquired the Terror Bloom too.

Exit to the north at 4 to find some Elven Slavers.
